Clash Royale: Best Heroic Ice Golem Decks

Your excellent match for low cost decks

Supercell has been releasing new Heroic cards faster than I can even catch up at this point. There’s even another new one while I’m writing this. But it will have an article in the future, as right now it’s the Ice Golem’s time to shine. The Heroic Ice Golem is currently one of the less popular ones, but that doesn’t mean he’s not good. In fact, Heroic Ice Golem is perfect for low-cost decks, and he’s already being featured in a ton of them. I’ll look at the three best Heroic Ice Golem decks, but first let’s check out how to play him in general!

How to Play Heroic Ice Golem

Heroic Ability: Snowstorm (2 Elixir) – Conjures a blizzard that damages and slows nearby enemies, then freezes them solid.

The Heroic Ice Golem is a fantastic cheap tank for decks that can easily take advantage of him distracting towers. He works very well with win cons that only target buildings, since he can tank for them without taking up too much elixir. His Heroic ability is also really good (and also cheap) since it can freeze enemies. This lets Ice Golem distract enemies so your win con can live longer even more effectively, and also helps a lot when defending. As a defender, Ice Golem is good since you can use him to distract threats and make them chase him across the arena. He’s a solid, cheap way to effectively counter most threats, for a while at least.

Hog Cycle

Cards:

  • Musketeer (Evo)
  • Cannon (Evo)
  • Ice Golem (Hero)
  • Hog Rider
  • Fireball
  • Skeletons
  • Ice Spirit
  • The Log

This deck is centered all around Hog Rider. This is one of the most popular forms of Hog Rider deck, with the objective of spamming as many as possible while cycling through cheaper cards. Heroic Ice Golem is perfect for this deck since the non-Heroic version was already a staple within it, so nothing has to change. Plus, since the Heroic version of Ice Golem is largely the same as the normal one just with the ability to freeze things, you also don’t have to change your playstyle if you’re already familiar with the old version of this deck.

Musketeer is great right now in all her versions, but the evolved one stands out for this deck. Her sniper attacks in evolved form make her perfect here, since she’s the only troop we have to defend with (for the most part). Cannon is the second evolution, which makes sense since it was also in the original version of the deck. Normal Cannon is already great with Hog Rider, so the evolved version fits perfectly. The rest of this deck is mostly cheap cards that can be quickly cycled through and a couple spells. Fireball is really important since the knockback can give Hog Rider valuable time to land an extra tower hit, while The Log is the best spell right now for clearing ground swarms that will likely target Hog Rider.

All Hog Rider decks are aggressive, so don’t waste too much time here. You’ll likely need to play at least a few Hog Riders before the job is done, so you don’t want to let too much time slip by. That being said, since Hog Cycle decks are so light on defensive troops, you have to be careful. Learning how to properly use each card is extremely important, as you’ll need to make the most of cheap troops.

Balloon Spam

Cards:

  • Musketeer (Evo)
  • Skeletons (Evo)
  • Ice Golem (Hero)
  • Balloon
  • Miner
  • Barbarian Barrel
  • Snowball
  • Bomb Tower

This deck is all about the Balloon, but it isn’t the same as most Balloon decks. Balloon is typically paired with support troops and other fliers and/or tanks, but this time it’s more about spamming them. This deck plays similarly to Hog Rider decks, since the main objective is to continue spamming Balloons until your opponent gets overwhelmed. You’re not going to be playing Balloon once and making a huge push to score a 3-crown win. This is all about the long game.

To accomplish this, we have several key troops. Heroic Ice Golem is the best card for the hero slot since the freeze ability is strong with Balloon, and because it’s just a cheap tank in general. Everything Heroic Ice Golem does is perfect for preparing/supporting a big Balloon push. Musketeer as the first evolution also makes a lot of sense, mainly because she’s able to defend Balloon while also dealing tons of damage in evo form. Skeletons are the second evo since they’re strong at countering tanks, which this deck is fairly weak to. The rest of the deck is focused on making Balloon pushes work as well. Miner distracts towers so Balloon can hit, Barb Barrel deals with troops near the bridge, and Snowball helps give Balloon the time it needs to land those slow hits.

Even though this is a Balloon spam deck, there’s still some patience required. You do have to be aggressive, but it’s still a Balloon. One of them can still take out a tower, even if the focus here is to spam multiple throughout the game. I’d recommend playing safe early on before transitioning into a super aggressive playstyle in double elixir if necessary.

Evo Royal Ghost + Evo Bats

Cards:

  • Royal Hogs (Evo)
  • Royal Ghost (Evo)
  • Ice Golem (Hero)
  • Three Musketeers
  • Fireball
  • Minions
  • Barbarian Barrel
  • Heal Spirit

This is the most aggressive of the Heroic Ice Golem decks. It’s centered around using Royal Hogs as often as possible, taking advantage of their speed and consistency to chip away at towers throughout the game. As the primary win con and main evo, Royal Hogs are what most of your plays should be based around. Royal Ghost is the second evo since it’s so good at defending, while also making some strong counter-pushes once it finishes that up. Even though Royal Ghost regularly gets nerfed, it’s still strong thanks to its potential DPS. Plus Royal Ghost himself is just strong, so even when not evolved it helps a lot.

Three Musketeers are another important card to remember while playing this deck. They cost 9 elixir, so they’re not a card you can play whenever you want. The best time to play them is when you need to defend both sides of the arena, or when there’s a high-HP target you need to obliterate. Heroic Ice Golem comes into play here in two ways. The main one is to tank/distract for the Royal Hogs. But when he’s not doing that, he’s also very strong when paired with Three Musketeers. Since he only costs 2 elixir, you can play him at the same time as the Musketeers (well, after a second at least). He’s strong enough to defend for them for a while, and he’s one of the only tanks that can reliably do that.

This is yet another aggressive deck for the list. Ice Golem usually works best with fast, aggressive win cons though, so that’s not surprising. Royal Hogs are extremely versatile, so you can play them whenever as long as you don’t leave yourself too open for attacks. Three Musketeers do necessitate patience, though. If you think you’ll need to use them, try not to play Royal Hogs until afterwards.
